About Nivo Insights
Nivo Insights reads your workouts, steps and sleep score from your Garmin Connect account and displays them in the app and on Home Screen widgets. A Garmin Connect account and a Personal API key are required.
Connecting your Garmin account
In Garmin Connect (web), open Settings → Personal API Key, create a key and choose how long it should last (30, 90, 180 or 365 days). Garmin shows the key only once: copy it, then paste it into Nivo and tap Connect. Keys expire; when Garmin rejects an expired key Nivo asks you to create a new one and reconnect.
Widgets aren't updating
- Open Nivo Insights and tap Refresh. Any error from Garmin appears below it.
- Check that your Garmin watch has synced to Garmin Connect; Nivo can only show what Garmin Connect has.
- If Nivo reports that Garmin rejected your key, create a new key and reconnect.
- Give iOS time to refresh the widget. WidgetKit timelines are scheduled by iOS, so updates are not guaranteed to be immediate.
- If needed, remove the Nivo widget and add it again from the Home Screen widget gallery.
An empty widget can mean there is no relevant data yet, Nivo is not connected, the key has expired, or the cache has not yet refreshed. The Sleep widget shows "No sleep recorded" until last night's sleep has synced.
Which sports are counted?
Weekly Sports groups Garmin activity types into running, swimming, cycling, yoga, strength, hiking and snowboard; other activities appear as "Other workout". Garmin uses a single type for resort skiing and snowboarding, so resort ski days also count as snowboard.
