A clear explanation of how Nivo Insights handles the Garmin Connect activity, step and sleep information you connect to it.

Overview

Nivo Insights shows your Garmin activity in simple summaries and Home Screen widgets: weekly workouts, today's steps, and last night's sleep score. This policy describes how the current version of Nivo Insights handles that information.

Data We Read From Garmin

Nivo Insights connects to your own Garmin Connect account using a Personal API key that you create in Garmin Connect and paste into the app. It uses that key to read, with read-only requests:

  • Activities (type, start time, duration, distance, calories), to group this week's workouts by sport and calculate totals.
  • Daily steps, to show the number of steps recorded today.
  • Sleep, to show last night's sleep score, total sleep time, and time in deep, light, REM and awake stages.

The app uses these values only to display summaries and refresh its widgets. It never writes to your Garmin account. Nivo does not provide medical diagnosis or treatment.

Data Storage

Nivo processes the data on your device. It saves a derived weekly workout summary, today's step total and last night's sleep summary as JSON files in an Apple App Group container shared by the Nivo app and its widgets. The cache contains summary values and date/calendar context; it does not store individual workouts. File writes use Apple's complete-file-protection-until-first-user-authentication option.

Your Garmin API key, and the short-lived access token Garmin issues for it, are stored in the iOS Keychain, shared only between the Nivo app and its widget extension. Nivo has no iCloud or CloudKit storage.

Data Collection and Sharing

Nivo has no developer-operated backend or account system. The app and its widgets connect over HTTPS directly from your device to Garmin (personal.connectapi.garmin.com), authenticating with your API key. Nivo does not send your data, or your key, to the developer or to any service other than Garmin. It includes no advertising, and your data is not used for advertising, marketing, tracking, or sale.

Third Parties

The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or other runtime SDK. Garmin Connect is the source of your data and the only external service Nivo contacts; Garmin's handling of your data is governed by Garmin's own privacy policy. Nivo is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Garmin.

Retention

Nivo replaces its local cache whenever a refresh succeeds. The cache stays on the device until replaced, until you tap Remove key in the app (which deletes the key, token and cached summaries), or until you delete the app. Nivo does not retain a server-side copy.

Your Choices

You can disconnect at any time with Remove key in the app. You can also delete the key in Garmin Connect (Settings → Personal API Key); Garmin keys also expire after the period you chose when creating them. Deleting Nivo removes its app data and shared widget cache. iOS controls widget refresh scheduling, so updates may not appear immediately.

Children's Privacy

Nivo does not create accounts or knowingly collect children's information. The app displays activity summaries and has no social or user-submission features. The App Store age rating is determined separately through Apple's rating questionnaire.

Changes to This Policy

If Nivo's data practices or this policy change, the published policy will be updated and the effective date revised.
